About the Academy:
The W.TEC Girls Academy is an after-school technology programme for girls in public secondary schools, designed to inspire girls to pursue computer science careers.
The Academy is currently working in 10 secondary schools within the Yaba Metropolis and with approval from the Lagos State Education District IV.
The girls through go through computer foundation, hardware and software modules, such as:
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Computer Architecture
• Scratch Programming
• Alice Programming
• Mobile Application Development
• Digital Video Production
• Career Talks
Through their participation in the year-long technology clubs, the girls become more confident in writing programmes, developing applications and creating digital content. This programme is designed to complement the existing computer science curriculum in the schools, which tends to focus more on theoretical knowledge than practical experience.
Duration: Through one academic year from September – June
The schools selected to participate in the W.TEC Academy must ideally have a functioning computer laboratory with access to the Internet.
If you are interested in having your school participate in the W.TEC Academy, kindly email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This initiative has been made possible by partnerships with Oracle West Africa (Nigeria), International Research and Exchange Board, IREX and the National Library Alagomeji.
