EARLY INNOVATORS 2021 CAMP

Hurray, it’s summer time which is an exciting period for kids! To make it more beautiful the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is thrilled to present her summer STEAM – camp (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) for girls and boys between ages 7-12 this August. The Early Innovators virtual camp which is slated to run from August 2nd – 27th, 2021 is directed at making learning fun and engaging for children. We aim help the participants develop an early interest in computer science, information technology and related careers.

The 2021 edition of Early Innovators is packaged with exciting curriculum to boost your child’s STEAM skills. The camp sessions will include a mix of engaging activities and leaning session facilitated by professionals. Modules to be taught includes: 3D modelling, Roblox, Video Game Design and Kids Story Telling.

Our curriculum has been well-selected to help exhibit your ward’s creativity and STEAM related skills in an increasingly technology-driven world. The goal of the W.TEC Early Innovators Camp is to create a generation of young programmers, designers, and entrepreneurs who can innovatively build amazing games, apps, and more.

OVERVIEW OF CAMP OFFERINGS:

WEEK 1 –3D Modelling with SketchUp:

August 2 – 6 (Mon-Fri)

Our 3D modelling course with Google SketchUp is designed for beginners who want to learn some 3D modelling skills. SketchUp is an intuitive 3D modeling application that lets you create and edit 2D and 3D models with a patented “Push and Pull” method. SketchUp is a program used for a wide range of 3D modeling projects like architectural, interior design and video game design, to name a few of its uses. Like every artistic skill, 3D modeling pushes kids to go beyond their creative boundaries.

This course would teach your child to:

  • Create basic models like chairs, tables, doors etc.
  • Model their own design
  • Work with different tools and choose the right one according to the requirement.

 

WEEK 2 – Video Game Design for Beginners with Kodu: 

August 9 – 13 (Mon-Fri)

Kodu Game Lab is a 3D game development environment that is designed to teach kids basic programming principles. In this class, pupils bring their imaginations to life with Kodu – a 3D visual programming language that helps your child develop critical skills of storytelling, creativity, and problem-solving. Kodu is a great introduction for kids to coding.

This course would teach your child to:

  • Create 3D Games and solve programming problems.
  • Understand all the fundamental programming principles.
  • Learn to use Kodu to develop 3D interactive and impressive games for PC

WEEK 3 – Video Game Design for Intermediates with Roblox:

August 16 – 20 (Mon-Fri)

Roblox is an educational tool where the opportunities for creativity and imagination are limitless. It is an online game platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation. It allows users to program games and play games created by other users. Roblox boosts children’s creativity.

This course would teach your child to:

  • Create, design and publish games to the Roblox website
  • Learn programming and coding skills
  • Learn critical thinking
  • Learn computing

WEEK 4 – Young Filmmakers: August 23 – 27 (Mon-Fri)

Filmmaking with Story Builder uses visual prompts to guide pupils as they create an original story. Instead of using a keypad to write a story, pupils record their narrative directly into their device’s speaker. Story Builder is a language-arts app help kids improve their sentence formation, storytelling, and speaking. Our filmmaking course helps young kids create their own exciting and personalized stories using real photos and voices.

This course would teach your child to:

  • Learn the creative use of technology
  • Think creatively and fosters their imagination
  • Enhance their communication skills
  • Record, playback and include images to tell stories

About the Early Innovators Camp:

The Early Innovators camp is a 2-week tech fun learning experience for kids between the ages of 7– 12 years.

The aim of  the non-residential camp is to harness the innate curiosity of children by introducing them to computing and science concepts through play and exploration, there-by providing them with early inspiration to  solving significant problems around them by exploring  information and communication technology (ICTs).

The camp is designed to spark and awakened the ICT talents of participants which will become handy for them as they progress with their studies. Feedback from our last editions indicated a general improvement of the kids in their interest of computers and other internet enabled devices.
