W.TEC Holds 2022 Tech Camp for Kids

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre – W.TEC recently held its Early Innovators Camp for Kids (girls & boys) in Lagos, Nigeria. The tech camp for kids between the ages of 5 – 12 years, was held in Ikeja  from August 8 – August 19. The camp concluded with a graduation ceremony after a 2-week tech fun learning experience alongside other extra-curricular exercises.

The Early Innovators Camp is a residential camp designed to harness the innate curiosity of children by introducing them to computing, science, electronic and art concepts through activities and exploration, there-by providing them with early inspiration to solving significant problems around them by exploring  information and communication technology (ICTs).

For the two-week duration of the camp, 12 kids participated in STEAM workshops featuring Electronics, Lighting craft, Game design with Kodu, creative art and numerous co – curricular activities (including Team Building, game session and Health well being).

In the course of the camp sessions, our early innovators   designed games with different features and lighting craft projects with include chicken-themed lamp, Christmas card, Mickey Mouse cup and many other creative projects.

The long-term goal of the camps is to spark and awaken the ICT talents of participants for an early stage, giving them a good start to having a perfect understanding of new technologies as they proceed with their education.

PRIZES

Prizes and certificates were given out to all participants during graduation ceremony in appreciation of their hard work.
