The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is a Nigerian nonprofit organisation focused on encouraging girls to pursue technology careers and supporting both girls and women to use technology confidently for entrepreneurship and to speak about issues affecting their lives. We build the capacities of Nigerian girls and women, to increase their economic power and ability to speak about issues affecting their lives.
This is done through technology literacy training, technology-based projects, mentoring, work placement and research. W.TEC works in partnership with local and international NGOs, educational and research organizations.
W.TEC’s work is focused on nurturing the next generation of female technology creators, entrepreneurs and leaders. Our programmes include technology camps, afterschool clubs, mentoring and research activities.
To educate, connect and empower Nigerian women through active engagement with information and communication technology via training, mentoring and research.
A society where Nigerian women and girls are able to create and use information and communication technology for learning, activism, entrepreneurship, and professional activities effectively.
W.TEC will achieve this by:
- Providing technology education for Nigerian women and girls so that they are able to use ICTs effectively for
work, activism and networking
- Producing innovative and ground-breaking research that supports the development and implementation of technology
programmes for women and girls
- Promoting and supporting the use of ICT in uplifting women’s rights
- Establishing a network of technology-fluent alumni and mentors
