WAEC Grade Scale

The marks calculator uses the WAEC (West African Examinations Council) grade classification: A1 (90–100%), B2 (80–89%), B3 (70–79%), C4 (60–69%), C5 (50–59%), C6 (45–49%), D7 (40–44%), E8 (30–39%), F9 (below 30%). This grading is used across Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and other West African countries for WAEC and NECO examinations.

Percentage change is directional — it measures how much a value increased or decreased from a starting point. If price goes from ₦2,000 to ₦2,500, the percentage increase is (500 ÷ 2,000) × 100 = 25%. Percentage difference is symmetric — it compares two values without a direction. The formula is: |V1 - V2| ÷ ((V1 + V2) ÷ 2) × 100. Use percentage change when comparing old vs new; use percentage difference when comparing two equivalent values.

WAEC classifies grades as follows: A1 (90-100%), B2 (80-89%), B3 (70-79%), C4 (60-69%), C5 (50-59%), C6 (45-49%) — all of these are credit passes. D7 (40-44%) and E8 (30-39%) are pass grades but below credit level. F9 (below 30%) is a fail. For university admission, most courses require at least five credits (C6 and above) including English and Mathematics.
