W.TEC's MakeHER Space Crew Visits Northern Nigeria

The visit of our remarkable MakeHer Space team to Northern Nigeria was an amazing one. The dynamic trio led by Folashade Braimoh, W.TEC’s Snr. Programmes Manager embarked on a work tour of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State. W.TEC’s passion for innovation and empowerment with the MakeHER Space programme which is set up to provide training spaces for women and skills training sessions has achieved a lot in taking solar technology skills to rural women and girls in the region. The purpose of this visit was to support and monitor the progress of our outstation teams. Activities throughout the tour included interesting demonstrations, enlightening conversations, interactive workshops, and courtesy calls. The following are some of the trip’s highlights:

Review meeting in Abuja with Regional Co-Ordinator’s

The W.TEC MakeHer Space programme had a review meeting evaluating the impact, successes and areas for improvement for the 3rd phase of the programme.

The review meeting held in Abuja had the W.TEC Lagos, Bauchi, Nasarawa and Abuja teams in attendance. The review meeting is a part of the rounding-up activities for the current training traunch in the region.

MakeHer Space programme empowers young girls (in-school and out-of school) with skills to create technology and engineering-based solutions that solve problems in their communities and exposes them to STEM.

Participants of our MakeHer Space programme also attended the event. Their presentations on their projects, a hands-on Power Bank wowed the audience as their explained the step-by-step process of building the power bank.

The event was organized to inspire, encourage & empower girls to pursue a future in ICTs, by ensuring they have the needed skills & support to achieve their goals.

Inspection of Training Centres in Nasarawa State

The last leg of the trip was the team’s visit to training centres across Abuja and Nasarawa State hosted by facilitators and proprietors of various hosts training centres.

Participants at the centres had lots to share with our team regarding their learning achievements and their one-of-a-kind Internship opportunity provided by the programme to empower the girls by attaching them with Mobile phone dealers and laptop repairers .
