The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is set to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child with 200 Secondary School girls in Lagos State. This year’s events organized by themed: “Our Time is Now, Our Rights, Our Future.” would include hands-on training on renewable energy projects and mentorship sessions with professionals.

At the event, the participants would be mentored on career, self-discovery and personal development. They would also be educated on how to deal with certain challenges. To boost their love of technology, W.TEC has designed a curriculum with renewable energy projects for the girls. The participants would learn to build projects like Solar phone chargers, rechargeable lamps and power banks.

Every October 11 is the International Day of the Girl Child as declared by the United Nations to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

The International Day of the Girl Child would be celebrated in two secondary schools with students, school officials, the W.TEC team, W.TEC Alumnae and partner organizations in attendance.

Part of activities to mark event, W.TEC would be partnering with the United Nations Information Centre in Lagos (UNIC), Union Bank PLC and CUMMINS West Africa Ltd, at different schools across Lagos State to make the celebration a memorable one.
