W.TEC MARKS 2023 IWD IN LAGOS

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) markED the 2023 International Women’s Day (IWD) in a big way by organizing a series of events across the country and also supporting events organized by other organizations.

The International Women’s Day theme for 2023, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” has gotten W.TEC heavily involved by numerous reputable organizations which have requested our inputs for their events because we are a recognized authority in the field, given that we’ve been a part of those in Nigeria at the forefront of empowering women and girls in technology for the past 15 years, with a staggering reach of 43,384 women and girls empowered with tech skills through our various programmes and partnerships.

W.TEC is proud to have organised the following events for participants of some of her programmes in Lagos State:

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Olajide Oyewole LLP Firm to one of our #iwd2023 events in Lagos, yesterday at Gbaja Girls SNR High School, Surulere, Lagos. Their insightful discussion with the girls about, focusing on your goals was motivating.

The event participants are girls enrolled in the W.TEC Academy, a co-curricular computer training program offered by W.TEC in Lagos, Ondo, and Kwara States.

In addition to the Firm’s talk session, the girls learned about the liberties and privileges that girls should have.

Part of our activities to mark 2023 International Women’s Day was a talk session with participants of our co-curricular computer training programme for secondary school girls at Stadium Snr High School, Surulere, Lagos.

We were pleased to have had, Benita Clement, Precious Ogunbiyi and Oshinfisan Monsurat; members of our Girls Advisory Council – GAC (the 3rd arm of W.TEC’s board), conduct the talk session with the girls. Members of the GAC are appointed from alumnae of W.TEC’s past programmes.

Their talk session focused on opportunities in STEM with or without studying STEM courses, with the goal of encouraging girls to consider careers in the tech field. According to our speakers, women should participate in STEM  because there are still many gaps that only women can fill.

We are so proud of our alumnae giving back to our students and our special thanks goes out to our GAC members for supporting our #iwd2023 programmes.
