W.TEC MARKS 2023 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY IN KWARA STATE
The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) markED the 2023 International Women’s Day (IWD) in a big way by organizing a series of events across the country and also supporting events organized by other organizations.
The International Women’s Day theme for 2023, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” has gotten W.TEC heavily involved by numerous reputable organizations which have requested our inputs for their events because we are a recognized authority in the field, given that we’ve been a part of those in Nigeria at the forefront of empowering women and girls in technology for the past 15 years, with a staggering reach of 43,384 women and girls empowered with tech skills through our various programmes and partnerships.
W.TEC is proud to have organised the following events for participants of some of her programmes in Kwara State:
We marked our 2023 International Women’s Day in Kwara State with participants of our MakeHER Space programme in the State. This was done to enable the girls have knowledge of all what it takes to be a responsible woman and good role models to their younger ones.
This event also doubled as the graduation ceremony for the participants who just completed their training which commenced in January this year.
MakeHER Space is our tech skill empowerment initiative for women and girls.
The programme is intended to provide training and designated spaces for women and girls to learn hands-on skills while developing technological and engineering-based solutions for their communities.
In Kwara State, the programme is carried out through a school format, in which secondary school students from selected schools are trained in technical skills for harnessing solar technology using locally sourced materials.
Classes on building solar-powered devices for Ilorin – 2023 participants, began in January at select across the Kwara State capital.
The Makeher Space programme by W.TEC is implemented with support from Google.
Our second International Women’s Day event in Kwara State was held at Government Day Secondary School, Adewole, Ilorin recently, on Thursday 16th of March, 2023.
The aim of the event was to spread the message of IWD to more girls across the State.
The event was graced by 180 girls from the school alongside the management of the school and W.TEC’s Kwara State team.
The Goodwill message delivered by the school’s VP expressed immense gratitude for the impact of W.TEC academy in the school, emphasizing how so much opportunities have been provided to many participants in the school.
