W.TEC Commences Its 2017 – 16 Days Of Activism Campaign #Wtec201716Days

On Wednesday, October 26th W.TEC commenced its 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women campaign for 2017.

W.TEC supports the 16 Days of Activism movement for the past 8 years, by organising online safety workshop for secondary schools girls in Lagos State. The 2017 campaign will for the first time feature online safety workshops for ladies too which is certainly a big plus for W.TEC’s annual campaign’s reach and impact. The workshop modus operandi involves a one-hour presentation featuring a two-session programme. The first session is an online safety session followed by a side attraction session on self -defence f techniques for females this session indeed is very popular among the participants at every single workshop.

The United Nations in 2001 declared November 25 – December 15, as the period for this campaign to be held annually, to create, sustained awareness for the fight against gender-based violence.

W.TEC is indeed excited to conduct this year’s campaign at 6 Secondary Schools most of which are government owned and two institutions for women with a total planned reach to 3000 females for the campaign.

The campaign for W.TEC this year is the most comprehensive and an ambitious one as the Safer Internet workshop series features materials which illustrate latest strategies against current dangers women face on the internet due to the fact that the digital space is ever dynamic. In all ramifications, the workshop, on the other hand, will help equip all participants with latest techniques, tools and information to staying safer online.

W.TEC’s lead facilitator for the workshop is Mr Adeyemi Odutola the Communications officer of W.TEC, supported by Miss Adeola Akinyemiju – W.TEC’s Admin Officer and Miss Ayomide Omoniyi. Mr Adeyemi has attended several online safety workshops organised by the Nigerian government, US Consulate in Lagos and especially the EMEA Child Safety Summit co-hosted by Google and Facebookin Dublin – Ireland. Apart from having the campaign conducted by well-trained hands, major materials used for the workshop are furnished from Facebook – online safety digital manuals, guarantying the workshop to be world class and up to date against latest online security and safety challenges to women and girls.

In the last 7 years, W.TEC has held this campaign in over 35 schools with an outreach to over 15,000 girls from 2017 we proud to add substantial numbers of women who will are set to start benefiting from our campaign.
